‘You realise what is already there’

Meditation Master Babaji reminds us that meditation is not about newly achieving something. It is in fact realising what is already there. That is, the real nature of this mind itself.

That doesn’t mean we don’t put in any efforts – the fact that the mind is a chatterbox and is not quiet for one moment means that we have to put in efforts to make the mind quiet. That is why a daily meditation is so vital.

If we can understand the technique to ‘just watch’, then the mind can be purified of its thinking habits and become quiet. Instead of being preoccupied with thoughts and visions all the time, we would be able to enjoy that elusive peace and contentment.

“There can be many myths about meditation, misunderstandings or misinterpretations, but know that meditation itself is not to do any achieving. It is to realise the thing that already is there. Already means about your Self. Your existence as the eternal entity beyond the birth and death of the physical body. That’s what you have to realise.

To realise this, you have to achieve silence of the mind. That is the achievement and realization – two different things. Sometimes if some masters have told – “It is already there, you don’t have to do anything”, that means to not do anything also, you have to do something. That is the meditation. You are meditating, you are watching, so that you stop doing anything in the mind. Remember, that is what is ‘watching’.” ~Shiva Rudra Balayogi
